

On March 14th 1997, from 8 to 9 p.m., there will be an occultation of the star Aldebaran by the Moon. Thanks to the particular brightness of Aldebaran, the phenomenon can be seen also with the naked eye or with simple binoculars, obviously in case of good weather.
Five hundred years ago Nicolaus Copernicus, who studied astronomy in Bologna, on March 9th 1497 observed an occultation of Aldebaran by the Moon from Bologna. Therefore an important anniversary of this observation occurs.
The Department of Astronomy of the University of Bologna and the Associazione Astrofili Bolognesi, under the auspices of the Comune di Bologna (Assessorato alla Cultura) and the Istituti Ortopedici Rizzoli, organize on
