Schematic representation of the GIANO design.

GIANO is an optimized near infrared spectrograph which can yield, in a single exposure, 0.9-2.5 micron spectra with a very high throughput throughout the whole spectral range.
This project is part of the Second Generation Instrumentation Plan of the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (TNG) located at Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory (ORM), La Palma, Spain.
In its baseline configuration, GIANO is the natural extension to IR wavelengths of SARG, the TNG high resolution optical spectrograph.
GIANO can provide high resolution spectra for accurate chemical and dynamical studies of any stellar or extragalactic object detected by 2MASS and DENIS.
