-------------------------------------------------------------------- School of Astrophysics "Francesco Lucchin" XI Cycle, III Course - Bertinoro, May 8-13, 2011 Dark energy probes -- Dynamical evolution of globular clusters web page: https://sites.google.com/site/boastroschool/ This is the first announcement of the School of Astrophysics "F. Lucchin" for PhD to be held in Bertinoro (FC) during the week May 8-13, 2011. AIMS OF THE SCHOOL The School of Astrophysics "F. Lucchin" is adressed to PhD students in Astronomy and Physics and it is open also to interested young researchers. The aim of the school is to contribute to their qualification and provide a common cultural baseline on hot topics of international research, both observational and theoretical. Each course is about 2 topics, in general not closely connected. The courses will be held in centres placed in the neighbourhood of different Astronomical Observatories and/or Universities to facilitate the interaction between students and the local astronomical research groups. TOPICS AND SPEAKERS The scientific organizing committee has chosen for the school the following topics: 1. Dark energy probes Director: Lauro Moscardini (Universita` di Bologna) - Luca Amendola (Universitaet Heidelberg) Introduction to Dark Energy - Carlo Baccigalupi (SISSA - Trieste) Analysis and physics of the cosmic microwave background anisotropies - Stefano Ettori (INAF - Osservatorio Astronomico di Bologna) Galaxy clusters as probes of the Dark Energy - Luigi Guzzo (INAF - Osservatorio Astronomico di Brera) Large-scale Structure as a Probe of Dark Energy - Thomas D. Kitching (University of Edinburgh) Weak Gravitational Lensing: From Theory to Practice 2. Dynamical evolution of globular clusters Director: Enrico Vesperini (Drexel University) - Melvyn Davies (Lund Observatory) Dynamical Evolution and Stellar Collisions in Globular Clusters - Francesco Ferraro (Universita' di Bologna) Tracing the Dynamical Evolution of Globular Clusters with Exotic Stellar Populations - Douglas Heggie (University of Edinburgh) Long-term Evolution of Globular Clusters - Steve McMillan (Drexel University) Early Dynamical Evolution of Globular Clusters and Numerical Techniques - Giampaolo Piotto (Universita' di Padova) Observational study of the structure and stellar content of globular clusters There will be the possibility for the students to present their scientific activity in short talks. REGISTRATIONS AND DEADLINES The deadline for the registration is *April 1st 2011*. It is possible to apply using the on-line registration form at https://sites.google.com/site/boastroschool/ Applicants will receive an email confirming their registration. For practical reasons the maximum number of participants will be 60. In case more people apply, priority will be given to PhD students. The final list of participants will be given by April 8th 2011. Participants will have to confirm by April 15th 2011 that they will attend the school.
