Current improvements in both observations and theory to interpret the properties of Galactic Globular Clusters are discussed. In particular, the emerging picture that old populations in globular clusters are formed by more than one single generation/burst of stars with the same initial chemical composition is being more and more accepted. Chemical star-to-star variations are compared in field and cluster objects, to highlight similarities/differences in the evolution of low mass giants as well as the role of dense environments.
