The detection of GRB 090423 at z=8.2 has strengthened the idea 
that GRBs can be used as a powerful tool to study the Universe during 
and beyond the reionization epoch. I will review the current status and 
the future prospects of the observations of very high redshift (i.e. 
z>6) GRBs and discuss how high-z GRBs can help us to shed light on the 
early stages of galaxy formation and on the reionization process.
