Shortcut to the SSP models

Shortcut to UVBLUE library

We present here a collection of two poster contributions to the international conference on "Resolved Stellar Populations", held in Cancun (Mexico) on 18-22/Apr/2005. The contributions will appear in the proceedings of the meeting, to be edited by M. Chavez and D. Valls-Gabaud, and published by ASP, San Francisco.

Bertone, E., Chavez, M., Rodriguez-Merino, L., Buzzoni, A.: "On age and metallicity of evolved stellar populations"
Abstract:
We explore the applicability of updated stellar libraries and synthesis codes in determining the age and chemical composition of evolved stellar populations from their integrated UV spectra. In this poster paper we present preliminary results of comparing the UV spectra of two fundamental calibration objects, the Sun and galaxy M32, with a grid of synthetic spectra of Simple Stellar Populations (SSPs) calculated using the stellar library UVBLUE in the Buzzoni synthesis code. While the results for these two objects are highly encouraging, there is still to be analyzed if the method is robust enough to be applied to the analysis of any old population.

Chavez, M., Bertone, E., Rodriguez-Merino, L., Buzzoni, A., Bressan, A.: "Synthetic mid-UV indices of stars and Simple Stellar Populations"
Abstract:
Using the UVBLUE library we have computed all mid-UV spectroscopic indices as defined by Fanelli et al. (1990). We explore their behaviour in terms of the leading parameters (Teff, log g, [Fe/H]) and quantify the effect of instrumental resolution on the indices. We briefly discuss the extent to which synthetic indices are compatible with those measured in observed spectra. We also explore the incorporation of UVBLUE in two population synthesis codes (Buzzoni 1989; Bressan et al. 1994), producing a grid of integrated mid-UV spectra of SSPs that span in age from 10 Myr to 20 Gyr and from Z = 0.0001 to 0.1 in metal content. The effect of these two paramenters on the integrated SSP indices is analyzed.
