Chemical evolution in the Universe:
the next 30 years
16-20
September, 2013
Castiglione della Pescaia, Italy
The
aim of the workshop is to acknowledge the fundamental contribution
brought by Francesca Matteucci to the field of galactic chemical
evolution, field in which she was pioneer, at 30 years from her first
publication as first author.
The workshop will focus mainly on the field of galactic chemical
evolution. We aim at acknowledging Francesca's pioneering, fundamental
contribution, but also surveying the state-of-the-art in this field and
discussing promising research directions and approaches.
By bringing together a limited number of scientists, we would like to
cover several aspects related to chemical evolution in various
environments and in different objects. The list of topics includes:
- Chemical Evolution of the Milky Way Galaxy:
Stellar Abundances, Nucleosynthesis in low and intermediate mass stars
and
in supernovae, Formation of halo, bulge and disc components of spiral
galaxies, Formation of globular clusters.
- Chemical Evolution of dwarf galaxies:
Abundances in dwarf Spheroidal galaxies of the Local Group, Formation
mechanisms of dwarf galaxies and their role as building blocks of
larger
galaxies.
- Chemical Evolution of elliptical galaxies:
The formation paradigms for spheroids, their main scaling relations and
their dynamical evolution, Integrated abundances in ellipticals.
- Chemical evolution on cosmological scale:
The evolution of the mass-metallicity relation, The evolution of the
cosmic star formation and supernova rates, Chemical evolution of the
intracluster and intergalactic media.
The conference is now over. Thanks a lot to all participants!
In the page of the program, the slides of (almost) all the talks can be retreived and downloaded.
In the Photogallery page, a gallery of pictures taken during the conference can be found.
